| Should You Use Hair Protection Against Heat? |
| Written by Nina Reed | ||||||
If you constantly put heat on your hair you will fry it! therefore, heat protection is important when you plan on using blow dryers, flat, or curling irons. You would protect your skin against the sun and heat if you were going to face high temperatures wouldn’t you? Your hair is no different.
I have stressed the importance of avoiding thermal styling your hair, because if you do not take the proper steps when styling your hair with these tools it can lead to severe damage. However, there are certain styles that cannot be accomplished without these tools; so I highly recommend using a heat protectants, which will work as a light weight barrier and shield the hair from the direct heat that removes your hair's natural oils and can eventually lead to your hair breaking and looking lifeless.
If you are dependent on using tools to style your hair, give it a break at least once a week. Deep conditioning may help to reduce damage by putting the moisture back into your hair. Don’t purchase high shine serums which are often confused with products that protect your hair from heat. Heat protectants come in sprays, gels creams and lotions - your choice.

Now you can chose a spray based on the kind of hair you’re dealing with. It is affordable and easy to find it can be purchased in most drugstores and grocery stores -cost $5-8.
● Beyond the Zone Turn Up The Heat Serum- This lightweight product protects hair from heat styling damage. It smells yummy and does everything it promises to do. This product can be bought from Sally’s Beauty Supple at a super steal for only $6.99.
● Fantasia Hair Polisher Heat Protector Straightening Serum- I’ve used this product before and at only $7.99 it guards the hair while adding shine. A little bit goes a long way - too much can weigh the hair down. You can find this product at any store with hair products.
Bonus Tip: If you blow-dry your hair and then flat iron, try air-drying your hair overnight and flat ironing in the morning, skipping just one step can save you from a lot of damage. |
