| Kuko Alamala & Jersey Deep Ent |
| Written by Billy | |
TCG: Who is Kuko Alamala? KUKO: IT Manager, Recording Artist, Video Director, Event Coordinator...
TCG: Is promoting nightlife events your full-time job? KUKO: No, I don’t get to party for a living full time.
TCG: Music or promotions which is you first love? KUKO: For someone like me they go hand in hand...it’s almost like asking a parent which one of your children do you love more...lol
TCG: How did Jersey Deep Ent start/how long have you been promoting? KUKO: Jerseydeep was established in 1999 by my partner Ray "Puf" Cuevas. He invited Me on a group trip organized by another promoter. By the time we returned From the trip everyone thought it was a jerseydeep event thanks to me. Needless to say, jersey deep and the other company offered me spots on their teams and I accepted jersey deep. Sometime later I made partner.
TCG: How would you describe the current state of the nightlife promotions Industry? KUKO: It is over saturated due to the bad economy. Nightclub owners are giving Rooms to everyone, rooms that just 3 years ago were inaccessible to the Urban Nightlife Socialite. Then with MySpace and Facebook everyone with 50 friends thinks he is a Promoter. Night club promotions is serious business, one where Bar Guarantees need to be met. Where distro needs to be on point. This business is very hectic, you are only as good as your last party regardless to how long you’ve been in the game.
TCG: Do you cater to a specific market/crowd? KUKO: I cater to an urban crowd 21-34. My crowd is very main stream working Professional with an income in the range of $35000-60000. It is 75% Latin 20% White 5% Black.
TCG: what makes jersey deep events better/what makes it different KUKO: We are innovators; we don’t wait for change; we evolve and set the next trend.
TCG: Considering that just about everyone calls themselves promoters these days, Do you still consider yourself a promoter? KUKO: No, because I don’t only promote. I am more of an event coordinator/host, I am the one that interfaces with the staff and the owners? I negotiate the deals and re-tweak the deals as needed.
TCG: Are guest lists even relevant anymore "V.I.P". I mean everyone one wants You to say their name or their list at the door these days. KUKO: Guest lists are necessary evils, its how I track my subs and promoter Performance. The problem with list is that, not everyone that has a list has Clout at that door. In order to enforce rules i must abide by them as well. But in all honesty I provide my VIPs with a contact at the door not to mention, I won’t host a room where I don’t have representation at the door.
TCG: We feel that promoters were part of the reason that MySpace lost its appeal. Now they are spamming Facebook as well. What are your thoughts on this? KUKO: I am very very very upset by this. I put promoters on blast when ever they Promote on my page, I warn them once second time I delete as well as tell all of my friends to delete them as well. Facebook is the new corner, like when i was a Kid... where everyone hung out and I could have a group convo..... I like to Socialize and find out how people are doing... not spam them ... I let them Know what I’m up to and if they like what i'm offering they come... but i don’t devalue what they are up to even if it is going to a different venue. I am always genuinely interested ... I love meeting people and Facebook provides that platform. I don’t want to see it ruined.
TCG: What is the hottest party/event in NJ right now? KUKO: Saturday Nights at Bliss Lounge in Clifton, we have a patio and hookahs now!!
TCG: How many events does Jersey deep host on a weekly basis? Give us the run Down Mon-Sun? KUKO: Weds we are Bliss; Thursdays at Bambu; Friday at 118 Lounge; Saturday we are at Bliss (Upscale Crowd) and HK (Open Rooftop).
TCG: Anything BIG coming up? KUKO: Memorial Day Weekend I’m at Harrah’s Pool with a live performance by Ludacris And July 4th i’m in Miami...
TCG: What can we expect from Jersey Deep in the future? KUKO: As long as I’m CFO you can expect innovation, real ladies nights with Victoria Secret giveaways and Real theme knights such as carnival night with Little People and stilt walkers. I want to make nightlife in this area like what you see in Vegas... so stay tuned... not to mention my directing career is really gaining momentum, most of the girls in my videos are girls from the venues I host you never know Ladies you could get discovered at one of my parties... ;) youtube.com/kukoalamala |
