| …UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO YOU! |
| Written by Neisha A. | |
You see this in movies, hear about it on talk shows, on the news and also from your worried parents every time before you go out with your friends. They tell you “please don’t leave your drink unattended” or “don’t accept a drink from a guy unless you see or watch him pour it.
We often look at our parents with a “ Do you think I’m that stupid’ look and once our parents see that look they show a sign of relief that means their job is done by giving us the warning. This was the same look I used to give to my mom every time she would say something before I went out. To me, all those girls who fell for the "roofie" trick were DUMB.
Until one night when I was invited to a celebrity party in one of the hottest clubs in NYC. I went with my friend and her boyfriend. Since I didn’t know anybody (not even the person who invited me) I thought it would be smart to bring them along. We were so excited to be in this famous New York City Club with " la crème" of NYC and by that, I mean Yankee players and top models.
After dancing with my friends for a while, I went to spend some time with the host of the party. The host was a guy who to me had a “Napoleon complex” (like Mariah Carey’s song), he was only surrounded by drunk girls. The moment I started talking to him I noticed he was flirting with me and he tried to touch my legs numerous times. Although I was uncomfortable with the situation, I was thankful for being invited to this “Hot” party.
He went away for a couple minutes; he came back and offered me a drink. Once I started drinking it, he kept insisting on me going to his apartment after the party. I told him I couldn’t because I came with friends. After a few sips of “that” drink I felt that my tongue getting numb, I started seeing double (and yes! It was just like in the movies). I knew there was something wrong with me.
In front of him, I pretended that everything was ok, but I excused myself and told him that I was going to check on my friends who were on the other side of the club. The moment my friends saw me, they knew something was wrong and they took me out of that club in a flash .That was the last thing I remembered. But my humiliation didn’t end there, next day I was still not feeling well and ended up getting sick at a Mall, where an ambulance had to be called.
After I felt better, I was yelled at by the two police officers, my mother, my best friend and pretty much the whole medical staff at the hospital who could not believe a woman in her mid twenties would be so dumb to accept a drink from a guy without knowing WHAT was in it.I guess you wouldn't take it seriously either, unless you faced it yourself, just like me. Please Ladies do not let this happen to you, no matter how tired you are of listening to your parents. |
